Pros and cons of MoodKit app for iPhone and iPad

MoodKit app good for

Several functions in one: a journalling app with templates for many different topics and situations to analyse or a customise tool to write your own entries, mood enhancing activities sorted in six different categories from productivity to enjoyment and with customisable suggestion function (there are so many different ways to find an activity that its sure you will find at least one or two to fit your needs), a thought checking tool to analyse and modify thought habits (the list of common distortions is a great shorthand) and a mood chart to track your mood curve. All this very well designed to export journal entries, set dates for activities. Makes great use of the iPhone/iPod environment. All the scientific and psychological merits aside (and despite the somewhat clinical design) this app is also great fun - like a good mentor or guide in your pocket. Very grateful I found this!
If you did CBT before this app provides you with everything you need and even more super useful features that you didnt even think of before. Through the variety of different features you can work on the way you relate to your thoughts in a very holistic way. And, of course, since it is in your phone it is accessible everywhere you bring your phone. The only thing I would recommend to add is a brief introduction on how to work with the App. I find writing effective thought records takes a bit of practice. It might be good to offer more examples or guide the user through one step by step. It still gets five stars because it exceeded my expectations.
Wish I could scroll through the graph and see mood fluctuations over more than one month. Can see them on the list but not the graph. Also wish I could print the graph to show to my doctor. Otherwise a useful app for sure
My psychologist recommended this app to me and it is great! I love how you can do the activities and then write a journal entry about it after. There is also a wide variety of different activities that you can choose from. The thought checker is also very cool. I agree with the other person who wrote a review that I wish you could go back and look further than one month to view your mood patterns. That would be a really useful tool, maybe you could change that? Overall, this is a fantastic app, I love it!
Well thought out, one can even set reminders in-App for mood logs, etc. Good job!
Being able to articulate my thoughts and compare them to destructive patterns is so helpful! An immediate gut-check to catch myself.

Some bad moments

After reading all these positive reviews, from reliable sources, I was expecting a great CBT app. The focus of the app seems to more on goal setting/activity scheduling, which is not what I think of as the foundation of CBT and is not very useful to me. Thought records are not intuitive, dont provide much guidance on challenging distortions (ie, evidence for and against) and dont allow for line breaks which turns them into a jumbled mess. Mood tracking is also unintuitive and doesnt allow for visually tracking anything that might contribute to mood issues (see Optimism for an example of this being done well). The different tools seem disconnected from each other. Not updated for iPhone 5. Could be so much better.
This is exactly the type of app a person with pre-existing anxiety is triggered by. The notion that our thoughts are being read without our knowledge. There is so much room for the abuse of power.
For people with mood disorders, this app is FANTASTIC because, among reasons, it can help your psychiatrist to more precisely understand your mood history and prescribe or adjust your meds appropriately. It is not only invaluable to the psychiatrist, but also to the patient. GET THIS APP!!! UPDATE: 4/1/2016 Cant find this I the app store anymore when I wanted to add it to my new iPad Pro. Major disappointment. UPDATE: 9/5/16: I have decided to stop using this app because I cannot print anything to give to my psychiatrist. The lack of being able to print is a deal breaker.
I love this app! Helps me check in with myself, notice triggers and patterns over time, and work through stressful situations. I really enjoy the task suggestions as well. Great value for the money.
It is a great app. Has exactly what I want in a CBT based app. Its just the design is so old that I held off buying it for weeks. If it just did a little flat trend, some of the functionality would minimize with it and become an all around stronger, more modern, app.
Stable and very useful, nicely flexible without being difficult. Bravo.
